776. Derby 140 - Early Line

As a rule, when I go to the track, I always make the same bet, irrespective of the race or the horses, a 2-3-9 Exacta Box. I've hit it twice this year in as many outings, once at Keeneland, once at Churchill. My Derby bet on Saturday, in addition to the normal 2-3-9 Exacta Box, will be a 4-12-19 Exacta Box. Go ahead and mark your Racing Forms.

775. Random thoughts on a park bench memorial

Ah, Old Man Bucklesby. He used to come to the park and sit for hours, ostensibly collecting ideas for his latest little novel or series in the grocery store magazines. But for this bench and the people he observed whilst sitting here, he would have been a complete failure. Rather, though, like much else of what he did, even his failures were incomplete. He hated everybody. (Credits to Jamie Maslin).

Personal

Louisville, Kentucky, United States
Never married, liberal Democrat, born in 1960, opinionated but generally pleasant, member of the Episcopal Church. Graduate of Prestonia Elementary, Durrett High, and Spalding University; the first two now-closed Jefferson County Public Schools, the latter a very small liberal arts college in downtown Louisville affiliated with the Roman Catholic Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. My vocation and avocation is politics. My favorite pastime is driving the backroads of Kentucky and southern Indiana, visiting small towns, political hangouts, courthouses, churches, and cemeteries. You are welcome to ride with me sometime.
