Les Fugate Definitely Heaton's BBQ. Never thought I would like BBQ out of a gas station, but it is amazing. Also, is part of one of the more famous twitter crises I experienced with Trey Grayson. Let's just say he spoke his mind a little too much about UK Basketball and it ended up making every sports page in America. Good advertising though for Heatons. Great friends from Caldwell County including one of my best buddies from GSP Tara Foltz and her family as well as Davis Rudd Cook Cherry, fraternity brother and son to the irascible former Rep. Mike Cherry.

Also home of golf phenom Emma Talley, who will be teeing up today in Women's US Open at Pinehurst. Also home of many truly inspiring elected county officials: Brock Thomas and (Elbert) Linda Baker Bennettonly to name a few and because they are on FB.

Davis Rudd Cook Cherry Not sure what's going on, but Nancy Newson's hams should be at the top of the list. Also, Adsmore is actually very unique. And, Capitol Cinemas is the only restored and still running theater in the state.

Noel Caldwell Where do I begin on this one Sherman A. Brown. Reiterate what everybody said about Heaton's BBQ. Must get a country ham from Newsom's. Attendance at the famous Black Patch Festival should be on everybody's bucket list. A visit to the Caldwell County Courthouse to view the tree I fell out of and broke my arm is also a must.

I gained a nephew this year (little guy is awesome) who's named John H. Caldwell just like his great great ancestor that the county is named for.

Lastly, I have to share this pic of my dad campaigning in the early 80's for Caldwell County Attorney. He went on to win the race and I like to think it was because he rode a Donkey in the Black Patch parade:

Trey Grayson The other good thing about Heaton's is that it open on Sunday since it is a gas station. Hard to find good BBQ on a Sunday.

Davis Rudd Cook Cherry Finally, venturing downtown, the Black Patch Grill is actually very good and should be serving alcohol soon ... and there is a new coffee shop next door that serves cappuccinos. Keep forgetting there is even a legitimate and successful cupcake store. The soft serve yogurt shop did not make it though ...
