Travis M. Scott Larue County is one of the few counties I have yet to visit, but I need to go see Sierra Enlow and Michael Wilson, take their advice on food, and check that county off my list.
Jeff Noble Phinis, of course. But where to eat? Larue is Kentucky's county with an identity problem. Many historians who've studied the Acts of the General Assembly at least half-believe the actual name is Helm County. Citizens who petitioned the General Assembly from the Nolin area of Hardin for a new county sought the name Linn, for whom Nolin was named. The GA ignored them. They decided upon the name Helm for later-Gov. John Larue Helm, the House Speaker. The GA argued with that and proposed Slaughter, for Gov. Gabriel Slaughter. They finally compromised on Larue, named for John Larue, who was Governor Helm's mother's father.
