- Katie Mueller This is a tough one for me-is where I went to school and essentially did most of my growing up as far as where my friends all lived. So. Ah.... Going to eat at Dairy Queen first thing. No questions. Laying out of school? Go up Butcher Holler-you'll never be found! I'd visit Travis, of course, and 821 other wonderful folks that make up my whole entire childhood. Prolly go to Pickle Fork and jump into the lake, ride up Wolf Pen on somebody's dirt bike and...do dirt bike stuff (go fast, hang on!). Oooh. Run out Van Lear and visit my used-to-be in laws and then get a pop at Webb's. I mean....the list goes on. I'd end the trip with another round at DQ. Just sayin.
- Charlotte Flanary Sharon Scott and Scotty, BJ Hill, Hubie and Bea Collins, Jennifer Kennard Ray, Harry Kennard, Tammy Barker, Peggy Tackett, Erma Lee Ward, Travis Scott, Shawn and Angie just to name a few. I would have to have a hotdog from DQ with slaw, onions, mustard and sauce (no, not chili, SAUCE). Apple Day is in just a few weeks, y'all, grab a hotdog from the JCDEC booth........you won't regret it.
- Katie Mueller Seconding what Charlotte said. Hot dog with sauce. Not chili-sauce. I like mine with sauce and cheese.
- Travis M. Scott So many things to do. As Katie said, go the the Paintsville Dairy Queen: the greatest Dairy Queen in Kentucky, order a footlong with sauce and a blizzard. Stop by the Van Lear Historical Society Coal Miners' Museum and Webb's store on your way to the Loretta Lynn Homeplace. Go to Paintsville Main Street too look for antiques and get a cup of locally made Kentucky Mountain Coffee at Espress-o Cafe. Get Pizza at Tailgater's. Play a round of golf at the Paintsville Country Club, and see if you can make that drive from the number 9 hole across the Big Sandy River. As Katie said, drive out to Pickle Fork and go cliff jumping into Paintsville Lake. Then drive out to the Oil Springs Superette (AKA "Sammie's") and order Country Ribs (ribs, breaded, deep fried, and then sauced) or the "Daniel Scott" (Pulled Pork, Bacon, Cheese and coronary problems on Texas Toast).
- Katie Mueller In the weeds here, but I like all the 'like Katie saids' there, Trav. Finally, due credit!
- Liles Bennett Taylor I'd definitely visit Rep. Collins and soon-to-be County Commissioner Travis M. Scott, and I'd eat wherever they take me.
- Josh Estep Well if you got to go out to eat then yeah the Dairy Queen is the place to be. But if I am looking for some good food I look no further than my grandma's house for some legendary fried chicken. But then again I am partial.
- Jeff Noble My only answer is Travis. I usually manage to By-Pass Johnson County on the way to Pikeville. I'll do better once I know the 3rd District Commissioner.
- Jeff Noble As a side note, Johnson is named for one of the more interesting of America's vice presidents and the only one who was born in my home county of Jefferson. He "married" a very distant mixed-race cousin of mine, Julia Chinn of Scott County, a slave he ...See More
- Matt Osborne Mr. Noble, not To hijack the post, but you keep posting interesting stories of family history. Any pointers for someone interested in embarking on genealogical research?
- Jeff Noble Matt, genealogy has been a hobby of mine since I was a teenager, in the days of 3x5 index cards and no internet. But, yes, here are some simple starters - talk to your oldest family members about their families. Make notes. Also, go to the local lib...See More
